What we hear most
Questions that keep you up at night.
"I built this so my family would be taken care of. Did I actually set it up that way?" "Am I counting on a business value that doesn't actually exist?" "What happens to my business, and my crew, if something happens to me?" "Is my estate plan actually up to date, or just a document I signed years ago?" "I'm successful and tired of paying so much in taxes. Am I unknowingly making the IRS my biggest beneficiary?" "My accountant, my attorney, and my financial advisor all have a piece of the picture. But nobody's running the whole job." "Will my retirement income actually last as long as I do?" "If I stepped back from the business tomorrow, would it even run without me?" I just don't know if what I've built is enough, or who I can trust to tell me the truth." "When I do sell, how much of it actually ends up with my family instead of the IRS?" The Aedura difference
Advice is easy to find. Coordination isn't.
The biggest gap in most financial plans isn't a missing product. It's missing coordination. When your CPA, attorney, and financial advisor don't communicate, opportunities disappear and risks multiply.
At Aedura, coordination isn't an add-on. It's the foundation. We build it into every engagement from the first conversation.
01
Coordination is the plan.
Too many advisors manage their piece in isolation. We run the whole job, working directly with your CPA and your attorney, connecting the dots between your business structure, investments, taxes, and estate so nothing falls through the cracks.
02
Built for your industry.
Most of what you're worth is tied up in one illiquid asset. We've sat across the table from owners in exactly that position for decades: protecting what you've built, structuring tax strategy that preserves liquidity, and making the moves that have to happen years before a sale to matter at all.
03
Independent by design.
We're not tied to a proprietary product shelf. We select from professional third-party money managers and build the plan around your situation, not around what we happen to sell.
04
Small enough to know you. Deep enough to handle it.
We keep a deliberately limited client base, so you're working with the founders themselves. But between the three of us we cover business consulting, exit and succession, estate, and retirement income.
How it works
It starts with a Site Walk.

The founders, Aedura Wealth
Construction Business Owners

Grow the business without losing the plan.

You're still building: scaling crews, winning bigger jobs, reinvesting in the business. The risk at this stage isn't ambition, it's an unprotected upside. Our strategies are designed to help you grow profitably while the equity and family security you're building stay protected along the way.
"How do I keep growing the business without putting my family's financial security at risk?"
Business Consulting
Sharper operations and stronger margins, so growth builds real enterprise value, not just more revenue.
Protection Planning
Insurance and risk structures that keep one bad year, injury, or lawsuit from undoing years of growth.
Early Exit Framing
It's never too early to build toward a future exit, so every growth decision compounds in your favor later.
What you walk away with
What you'll leave the Walkthrough with, at no cost.

1
The Financial Blueprint
Every account, policy, and liability mapped on one sheet, so you can finally see the whole picture.
2
Estimated Business Valuation
An estimated value range based on the information you provide: what your number actually looks like on paper. Not an appraisal or a formal opinion of value.
3
The Framework
Your priorities and the specific next steps, on a single page you keep. No obligation.
Valuation estimates are prepared for planning discussion only, based on information you provide. They are not a formal appraisal, a fairness opinion, or a prediction of the price a buyer would pay.

Common questions
Questions owners ask while they’re still building.
What makes a construction company worth more to a buyer?
Buyers pay for earnings they believe will continue after you leave. That means consistent gross margins across job types, a backlog that isn't dependent on one or two general contractors, financial statements that reconcile to the WIP schedule, and a management team that can estimate and run work without the owner. Revenue growth alone rarely moves the multiple; reducing the buyer's perceived risk usually does.
How much should I take out of the business versus reinvest?
There is no universal percentage, because the right answer depends on your seasonality, backlog, bonding requirements, and debt service. What matters more is having a repeatable test: project your cash through the lowest week of the next quarter, subtract committed obligations and tax reserves, and only distribute what survives a realistic collection delay. Owners who build personal assets outside the business steadily, rather than in good years only, end up with far more flexibility at exit.
Should my construction company be an S corp, an LLC, or a C corp?
Entity choice affects how a future sale is taxed, sometimes years before the sale happens. A recent S election can still carry built-in gains exposure, and an LLC's tax classification is a separate question from its legal form. This is a decision to review with your CPA and attorney against the transaction you might realistically do, not a default to copy from another contractor.
What happens to my company if something happens to me?
That depends on whether anyone else can legally sign, approve payroll, talk to your surety, and keep jobs moving. A buy-sell agreement addresses who eventually owns the business; it usually says nothing about the first seventy-two hours. Most owners we meet have one and not the other, and the gap only becomes visible under pressure.
When should I start exit planning if I'm not ready to sell?
The decisions that most affect after-tax proceeds (entity structure, clean books, customer concentration, key-employee retention) take years to change. Starting early costs you nothing and forces no timeline. It simply means that when you do decide, the business is already in a position to be sold well rather than sold quickly.
Owners Planning an Exit

Make the biggest sale of your life the best one.

Selling or transitioning in the next few years is likely the single largest financial event of your life. We help you get the business, the deal structure, and yourself personally ready, so you walk away with more, and with a clear next chapter.
"If I sold the business tomorrow, would I actually be ready, financially and personally?"
Exit & Succession Planning
Structure the sale or transition (buyer, partner buyout, or next generation) to help minimize taxes and maximize proceeds.
Estate Planning
Coordinate the sale with your estate plan so a liquidity event doesn't create a tax problem for your family.
Post-Exit Planning
A plan for life after the sale: income, investments, and purpose, built before you close, not after.

Common questions
Questions owners ask before a sale.
What is my construction company actually worth?
Value is driven by normalized earnings and the risk attached to them, not by revenue. A defensible estimate starts with adjusting earnings for owner compensation and genuinely non-recurring items, then examines the WIP schedule, backlog quality, customer concentration, and equipment needs. Published multiples for small business sales are useful context but are often based on a different earnings measure than the one a buyer would apply to your company.
How far in advance should I start planning a sale?
Three to five years is a common planning window, though the right timeline depends on how transferable the business is today. The work that needs the most runway is the work buyers scrutinize most: consistent monthly reporting, leadership who can operate without you, resolved ownership documents, and an entity structure that is efficient for the transaction you expect.
How much of the sale price will I actually keep?
Usually less than the headline number, and the gap is often larger than owners expect. Debt repaid at closing, working-capital adjustments, transaction costs, escrow, seller financing, and earnouts all sit between enterprise value and cash in hand, and taxes depend on how the deal is structured and how the price is allocated. We build that bridge explicitly so the retirement plan is tested against money you will actually receive.
Should I sell to an outside buyer, my employees, or my family?
Each path trades price against control, timing, and certainty. An outside buyer often pays the most but may require you to stay on. An internal or family transfer preserves continuity but usually depends on the business financing part of the purchase. The right answer depends on what you want the next five years to look like, not only on which number is largest.
What happens to my bonding and personal guarantees when I sell?
Nothing automatically. Sureties and lenders evaluate a change in ownership and management on their own terms, and a closing does not by itself release an owner from indemnity or a personal guarantee. Those releases have to be negotiated and confirmed in writing, which is a conversation to have well before terms harden.
Owners After the Exit

You sold the business. Now make it last.

The hard part is done. You built it and you got out. Now it's about turning the proceeds into income that lasts, keeping the tax bill down, and making sure what's left reaches the people and causes you intend. One coordinated plan, so nothing slips through the cracks.
"Will what I've built actually support the income I need, and which accounts do I draw from first?"

Common questions
Questions owners ask after the business is sold.
Which accounts should I draw from first in retirement?
The order matters more than most people are told. Drawing from taxable, tax-deferred, and tax-free accounts in the right sequence can meaningfully change the total tax paid across retirement, and the right sequence changes with your bracket, your Social Security timing, and when required minimum distributions begin. It is a plan to build deliberately, not a rule of thumb to apply once.
What should I do with the proceeds after selling my business?
The first question is not where to invest, it is what the money has to do. Separate the amount that funds essential spending for life, the reserve for taxes still owed, and what is genuinely long-term or intended for heirs. Those three buckets have different time horizons and belong in different strategies, and sorting them before investing prevents decisions you have to undo later.
How much can I spend each year without running out?
There is no single safe withdrawal rate that answers this, because the answer depends on your spending floor, your other income sources, your tax situation, and how early a poor market would arrive. A useful plan models the downside explicitly and identifies which expenses are essential and which are discretionary, so you know in advance what would flex if conditions changed.
Will my family owe estate tax?
Possibly, and the answer changes with the law and with the size of a recent liquidity event. Owners who just sold a business are frequently in a different position than they were two years earlier, and documents drafted before the sale often no longer match the estate they now govern. This is reviewed with your estate attorney; our role is to make sure the financial plan and the legal documents describe the same intentions.
Do I still need life insurance after I've sold the business?
Sometimes the original purpose is gone: funding a buy-sell, covering key-person risk, protecting a business loan. Sometimes a new purpose replaces it, such as estate liquidity or equalizing inheritances among heirs who are and are not in the family business. The point is to review why each policy exists rather than keeping or cancelling coverage by default.
What we do

Services built for owners and families.

We work across the full arc of your financial life: growing the business, planning the exit, and securing what comes after. Six disciplines, coordinated into one plan, rather than leaving you to connect the dots between separate advisors.
01
Exit & Succession Planning
The sale or transition of your business is likely the biggest financial event of your life. We help you plan it early, structure it well, minimize taxes, and decide who carries it forward: a buyer, your team, or the next generation.
—Estimated valuation and the value gap
—Outside sale, buyout, or family transfer
—Getting personally ready, not just financially
02
Tax-Efficient Strategies
We work alongside your CPA, not around them, to find the opportunities that only show up when someone is looking at the whole picture. Entity structure, timing of income, charitable strategy, and the tax consequences of every major decision before you make it.
—Entity structure ahead of a transition
—Timing of income and capital gains
—Charitable strategy around a liquidity event
03
Estate & Legacy Planning
We coordinate with your estate attorney to protect your family and assets, reduce estate taxes, and make sure your wishes are carried out, so what you’ve built passes to the people and causes you care about, on your terms.
—Coordination with your estate attorney
—Beneficiary and titling review
—Liquidity so assets aren’t forced to sell
04
Retirement Income Planning
Turning what you’ve accumulated into income you won’t outlive, sequencing distributions from the right accounts at the right time to help minimize taxes across retirement. Certified income planning expertise on the team, and a straight answer on whether what you’ve built is enough.
—Which accounts fund which years
—Social Security and pension elections
—Planning for RMDs before they force your hand
05
Investment Management
Disciplined portfolio construction through professional third-party money managers, aligned to your timeline, income needs, and risk tolerance. We’re not tied to a proprietary product shelf. The portfolio is built around your plan, not the other way around.
—Professional third-party managers
—Asset location to reduce tax drag
—No proprietary product requirements
06
Business Consulting & Growth
We sit on the same side of the table as you, strengthening operations, improving margins, and building enterprise value so your business is worth more and runs better. Especially deep experience with construction and trades.
—Margin and profitability by job type
—Owner compensation vs. reinvestment
—The metrics that actually drive value
Coordinated, not siloed
These aren't six separate services. We coordinate all of it, working directly with your CPA and your attorney, so growth, exit, tax, investment, retirement, and estate decisions are made as one plan, not six disconnected ones.
Common questions
Questions we hear most often.
What does it cost to work with Aedura Wealth?
Fees depend on the scope of the engagement and the services involved, and are disclosed in writing before you engage us. Planning work, investment management, and business consulting are priced differently, and we will tell you which applies to your situation during the Site Walk. There is no cost or obligation for the Site Walk itself.
Do you work with my existing CPA and attorney?
Yes, and it is central to how we work. We do not provide tax or legal advice; we coordinate with the professionals who do, so that entity decisions, estate documents, and the financial plan reflect the same strategy. If you do not currently have a CPA or attorney, we can suggest professionals to interview.
Do I have to move my accounts to work with you?
No. The Site Walk and its deliverables do not require you to transfer anything. We also offer financial planning for a fee that is not tied to moving assets to our firm, so you can keep your accounts where they are and still work with us. If you later choose to have us manage assets, custody and account details are explained in writing first, and that decision stays yours.
What is a Site Walk?
The Site Walk is our first step: a 20-minute call, named after how a contractor walks a job before bidding it. We talk about where you stand today and where you want to go. If it looks like a fit, we schedule a one-hour Blueprint Session, in our office or on Zoom, to take a deeper look at your full picture. At the Walkthrough that follows, we walk you through your deliverables: a Financial Blueprint, a one-page Framework, and an estimated business valuation or plan review, depending on your situation. You take them home to think it over. There is no cost and no obligation at any step.
Do you only work with construction business owners?
Construction owners are our specialty and where our experience runs deepest, but we work with business owners in other trades and with families who have already sold or stepped back. What our clients have in common is complexity that spans the business, the tax picture, and the estate, and a preference for one team coordinating it rather than several advisors working separately.

Fort Myers, Florida

Financial advisors for Fort Myers construction owners.

Our office sits on McGregor Boulevard, a few minutes from downtown Fort Myers. We work with contractors and construction business owners across Lee County and Southwest Florida on the same problem: the business holds most of the family's net worth, and no single advisor is looking at all of it.
"I've had my best years ever. Why does it still feel like everything I own is tied up in one company?"
Southwest Florida construction is not a typical market.
Planning that ignores local conditions is planning for a different business. Three things shape financial decisions for contractors here in ways they don't elsewhere in the country.
Storm-driven demand
Rebuild work after a major storm inflates revenue and earnings for a period, then normalizes. A valuation or a distribution policy built on peak years misreads the business. Buyers normalize those years; owners often don't.
Insurance and bonding cost
Property, liability and surety pricing in coastal Florida runs well above national norms and moves quickly. Those costs sit directly in your overhead and directly in a buyer's model of your margins.
Seasonal cash timing
Season, hurricane months and permitting cycles push the calendar around. Cash can look strongest in the same quarter the business is least able to release it. A thirteen-week view matters more here than a good year-end number.
Who we work with locally.
Contractors and trades
General contractors, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, roofing, concrete and site work firms, typically with $1M+ in investable assets or $5M+ in business value.
Owners and their families
Households where the business, the real estate and the retirement plan have never been looked at on one page, alongside the CPA and attorney already in place.

Common questions
Questions we hear from Fort Myers owners.
Do I need to come to your Fort Myers office?
No. Our office is at 2300 McGregor Blvd., Suite 201 in Fort Myers, and owners are welcome there. But most first conversations happen by video or at your office or jobsite, whichever is easier. We work with clients across Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia, and we travel.
How did the post-hurricane rebuild years affect what my company is worth?
Usually less than owners expect, and sometimes negatively. A buyer normalizes storm-driven revenue rather than treating it as a new baseline, and will ask whether the margins earned during that period are repeatable with normal demand and normal labor availability. Two or three inflated years can actually make a valuation conversation harder, because they widen the gap between what the owner believes the business is worth and what the earnings support. The useful step is a formal valuation that separates recurring earnings from storm-cycle earnings.
Do you only work with construction companies?
Construction owners are our focus, and most of our work is with contractors and trades. We also work with families in Southwest Florida who have already sold a business or are approaching retirement, and with owners in adjacent industries who have the same problem: significant net worth concentrated in one illiquid asset.
How do you work with my existing CPA and attorney?
Directly, and with your permission. Most Fort Myers owners already have a CPA and often an attorney they trust. We don't replace them. We coordinate, making sure the tax plan, the entity structure, the estate documents and the personal financial plan are all working from the same assumptions, rather than three competent advisors solving three separate problems.
What does a Site Walk cost?
Nothing. The Site Walk is our introductory process for owners and families. You receive an estimated business valuation or plan review, a Financial Blueprint, and a one-page Framework. There is no cost and no obligation to work with us afterward.

"I know the builders, I know the subs, and I know what happens to a good crew when the schedule slows down."

What we see in Brevard.
Our work here is concentrated in residential construction and the subcontractors who supply it, alongside commercial builders and their trades. Three patterns come up repeatedly.
Subcontractors tied to a few builders
A residential sub doing strong volume with two or three builders has a revenue profile a buyer discounts heavily. The work is real, the margins can be excellent, and the concentration is the single largest drag on what the business is worth.
Cycles you can't control
Residential volume moves with rates, permitting and developer appetite. Owners who set their distribution policy during a fast year are the ones borrowing against the line two years later. The fix is a distribution framework tied to working capital, not to the balance in the account.
The owner is the business
In smaller trade shops the owner prices the work, holds the builder relationships and settles every field problem. That is a job, not a sellable asset. Separating the two takes years, which is why the conversation should start long before a sale is on the table.

Founder | Senior Wealth Advisor
Bob is based in Brevard County and is the former president of the area's home builders association. That background means the first conversation usually skips the part where an advisor learns how construction works. He covers business consulting and exit strategy for Aedura, and works with owners throughout the Space Coast.

Common questions
Questions Brevard owners ask.
Do you have an office in Melbourne or Viera?
Not a storefront. Robert DiBella lives and works in Brevard County and meets owners at their office, on a jobsite, or by video, which is how most construction owners prefer to meet anyway. Aedura's registered office is at 2300 McGregor Blvd., Suite 201 in Fort Myers.
My company is a residential sub, not a large builder. Am I too small?
Our screening is generally $1M or more in investable assets or $5M or more in business value, and plenty of residential subcontractors clear that without thinking of themselves as large. If you are below it, say so in a first conversation and we will tell you honestly whether we are the right fit or point you somewhere better.
Most of my work comes from two builders. How much does that hurt a valuation?
Meaningfully, and it is the most common issue we see in Brevard. A buyer assumes that losing one relationship removes a large share of your revenue, and prices that risk into the multiple. It is also one of the more fixable problems, but it takes time: diversifying the builder base, documenting the estimating so the relationships are not personal to you, and building service or repeat work that does not depend on new construction volume.
How does the home builders association background matter?
Practically, it means Bob has spent years around the builders, subs and suppliers in this market and understands how the work actually gets priced and paid. It shortens the first conversation considerably. It does not substitute for planning credentials, which is why he works alongside a CFP® professional on the Aedura team.

Greenville, South Carolina

Financial advisors for Upstate South Carolina contractors.

Brecken Kanz is based in Greenville. He works with landscaping companies, home builders and their subcontractors, and commercial contractors across the Upstate, owners whose net worth sits almost entirely inside a business that depends on them showing up.
"The equipment is paid for, the crews are busy, and I still can't tell you what the company is worth."
What we see in the Upstate.
The trade mix here is broader than a single specialty, and each type of business runs into a different version of the same problem.
Landscaping and site trades
Equipment-heavy, seasonal, and often carrying a mix of recurring maintenance contracts and one-off installs. That recurring revenue is usually the most valuable thing on the books and the least visible in the financials. Separating it out changes the valuation conversation entirely.
Home building and its subs
Residential volume rises and falls with rates and developer activity. Owners who set their pay and distributions during a strong stretch are the ones under pressure when the schedule thins. A working-capital-based distribution policy solves most of it.
Commercial contractors and trades
Larger jobs mean retainage held longer, bonding requirements, and general-contractor concentration. The balance sheet can look strong in the same month the business cannot release cash. A thirteen-week view matters more than a good year-end number.

Common questions
Questions Upstate owners ask.
Do you have an office in Greenville?
Not a storefront. Brecken Kanz is based in Greenville and meets owners at their office, on a jobsite, or by video. Aedura's registered office is at 2300 McGregor Blvd., Suite 201 in Fort Myers, Florida, and we are registered to do business in South Carolina.
I run a landscaping company. Do you actually work with businesses like mine?
Yes, and it is a meaningful share of our Upstate work. Landscaping companies tend to be equipment-heavy and seasonal, with a mix of recurring maintenance contracts and project installs. The recurring side is usually worth considerably more to a buyer than owners realize, and it is frequently buried in financials that report everything as one line. Pulling it apart is often the first thing we do.
Does it matter that your main office is in Florida?
Not for the work. Brecken lives in the Upstate, and the firm is registered to do business in South Carolina. Documents, meetings and the planning process all work the same way. What a local advisor gives you is someone who can meet at your jobsite on short notice and understands the market you bid in.
How do you work with my CPA and attorney?
Directly, with your permission, and without replacing them. Most owners already have people they trust. The problem is rarely advisor quality. It is that the tax plan, the entity structure, the estate documents and the personal financial plan were each built on different assumptions. Our role is to get them working from one set.
